Activator Method
Activator Method uses a spring loaded instrument to deliver a fast but minimally dynamic adjustment. Patients are most commonly lying on their stomach and the doctor uses the Activator over the affected joints. This technique is great for patients with osteoporosis or who have difficulty with manual adjustments.
Acupuncture
We offer Acupuncture as one of our many therapies to help in the healing process and to assist in pain management. Acupuncture can be used for many conditions and problems. Our staff and Chiropractors can help assess whether Acupuncture is right for you.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s nervous system to increase healing and reduce pain. Acupuncture utilizes specific points based on your symptoms and condition to increase healing and decrease pain. By stimulating Acupuncture points a chemical release facilitates local and systemic change through the nervous system.
This form of therapy began thousands of years ago in China. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that energy (qi) flows along channels or meridians under the skin. When there is an imbalance in the qi, dysfunction occurs and changes the person’s ability to heal. By applying pressure or needles to an acupuncture point, you can stimulate a change in the energy to that area of the body. Acupuncture stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself by increasing energy to the affected area. Acupuncture can treat a variety of conditions including shoulder pain, back pain and headaches.
Acupuncture works by placing very thin needles (about the width of a hair) just under the skin to stimulate an acupuncture point. The needles are left in the skin for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The needles are disposable and new needles are used with treatment. The frequency of care depends on the severity of the condition being treated. On average, a patient will have two treatments a week for two to four weeks.
Chiropractic Care
We specialize in correcting your body’s misalignments. Our goal is to ensure that your spine and the rest of your body are working harmoniously. To do so, we will help you develop a plan that will require light stretching, some exercise, chiropractic care, and a healthy diet.
Corrective Exercises
At Acu-Chiropractic Wellness Center in Eagan we often recommend specific exercises and stretching programs to help you recover quickly from your injury and maintain your health after you recover.
These programs are an important part of your treatment plan because they work to build strength and stability in order to allow your body to move efficiently and reduce your chances for injury in the future. These corrective exercises or stretches may be done in the office as well as at home. When home exercises are recommended, you may receive a printout of the instructions or a code to enter at www.my-exercise-code.com. This site will give you access to photos and videos of the specific exercises recommended by your doctor.
So why do we need to strengthen some muscles, stretch others, or work on balance and stability? Muscles and surrounding tissues are very good at adapting to the stress that we place on them and become stronger or weaker in response to the load placed on them. For most of us, we don’t challenge our muscles on a daily basis, so they tend to become weaker and less active. We also tend to use certain muscle groups more often than others which set us up for imbalances. If you are sitting at a desk all day, you probably tend to use the muscles on the front of your shoulders and chest more than the muscles on the back of your shoulders. This tends to develop into a posture where the shoulders are rolled forward, the head sits in front of the trunk, and we slouch forward at the hips. When one muscle group is active, the body inhibits the muscles that do the opposite action, so when we are using the muscle group on the front of our shoulders for 8 hours we are also inhibiting the muscles on the back. These muscles weaken, get longer, and become less efficient. This leads to dysfunction and eventually pain.
We can always treat the pain each time it comes up, but by adding exercise and stretching on top of chiropractic we can make changes that last.
Diversified Technique
Diversified Technique is used by 95% of chiropractors, including the Doctors at Acu-Chiropractic. There are many different chiropractic techniques. The Diversified Technique encompasses the most effective ways of adjusting joints anywhere in the body.
Dry Needling
Dry needling aims to address neuromuscular conditions, relieve pain, and improve range of motion. During your scheduled appointment, we will insert a small needle into specified areas of your body depending on your unique and individual needs.
Dry needling follows evidence based guidelines, recommended point locations, and dosages for treatment of specific conditions. Our goal is to improve pain control and reduce muscle tension through this technique.
Electrical Stimulation
Electrotherapy is an alternative pain management treatment option that involves the use of mild electromagnetic pulses to provide relief for the patient. This treatment option can dull pain, repair tissue, strengthen muscles, and even improve your blood circulation.
Graston Technique
Graston Technique (GT) is a soft tissue technique that breaks up scar tissue and adhesions found in the muscles, ligaments and tendons. These restrictions in the soft tissues can be due to an injury, chronic overuse or repetitive motions. The adhesions can limit movement and cause pain or discomfort.
The doctor uses six stainless steel instruments to locate and treat areas with fibrous adhesions. Instruments are applied with light pressure, gliding over areas of restriction. This process breaks up adhesions, restoring the tissue to a healthy state.
Treatment time is approximately 15 minutes and is usually scheduled twice a week for up to 4-5 weeks. Most patients notice significant improvements by the second or third visit. Stretches are used in conjunction with treatments to speed up the healing process and promote healthy tissue growth.
Benefits of Graston Technique:
- Decreased pain levels
- Increased range of motion
- Faster rehabilitation
- Decreased need for anti-inflammatory medications
- Decreased number of doctor visits
Graston technique successfully treats:
- Joint Sprains
- Muscle Strains
- Headaches
- Tennis or Golfer’s Elbow (Epicondylitis)
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- IT Band Syndrome
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Neck and Back Pain
- Tendinitis
- Fibromyalgia
- Painful Scars
- Acute or Chronic Conditions
Kinesio Taping
Kinesiology Taping is a precise rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints. This technique allows the body’s normal range of motion as well as providing extending soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Kinesio tape is latex-free and hypoallergenic which makes it “skin friendly” for patients with sensitive or fragile skin; such as, patients with diabetes, fibromyalgia or rheumatoid arthritis.

If you are not sure if the lifestyle choices you are making are worsening or improving your condition, we are here to help. We address the typical chiropractic issues as well as coach our patients to live a healthier life by looking at the individual as a whole mentally, physically and emotionally.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. There are many types of massage therapy methods (also called modalities). People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons; for example, to reduce stress and anxiety, to relax muscles, to rehabilitate injuries, to reduce pain and to promote overall health and wellness.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is an intervention administered to various patients to alleviate pain or restrictive tissue problems. The release treatment usually involves the application of gentle or moderate pressure on the connective tissues and leads to relaxation and eventual elongation of the fascia therein. These restrictions are often caused by traumatic accidents or inflammations of the soft tissue. Some patients get them as an after-effect of surgery. They always result in muscular tension and spasm of sharp pain. They cannot be detected through standard diagnosis tests like the x-ray scan. It is essential for a patient to visit a doctor or physiotherapy expert once they notice restriction of movement in the hip area or shoulder. Painful backs can also be a sign of the restriction and can only be treated through the Myofascial Release procedures.
If you have never undergone a Myofascial Release procedure before, you might wonder what will be done. There is no need to panic any way, since it is a minor therapy intervention meant to alleviate any pain that could be as a result of fascia muscle pain and restriction. Here is what you can expect if you visit a standard therapist for your myofascial pain treatment.
- The therapist might have to interview you about what you think the cause of the pain could be. They may also palpitate the affected area to identify the particular fascia that needs to be massaged and given due attention during the procedure.
- A standard treatment should last anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour, but should not last longer than that as that may lead to soreness and fatigue.
- You may experience considerable relief, but if the case is severe, you may need to go for another session or two in the subsequent days.
- The treatment does not require the use of any equipment and creams or gels. The therapist will only need their hands to manipulate and apply slight pressure to the trigger points and affected muscles.
Nutritional Consultations
Here at Acu-Chiropractic Wellness Center we want to help you on your journey towards health and wellness. Our goal is to help you achieve total health and balance with your body. In order to achieve that goal, we are here to offer specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices to help you maintain a healthy weight.
Pediatric Chiropractic
Chiropractic care is not just for adults. In fact, more and more parents are seeing the many benefits of their children seeing a chiropractor every single day. Some of the benefits are improved sleep, improved behavior and attitude, and improved immune system function. Children encounter many physical stresses in their life that you may not realize. These stresses can cause your child’s spine to have issues in growth and development.
Physiotherapy
It is important to understand that often times where the pain presents is not the area that needs to be treated. The pain may be due to that area compensating and being over-worked from another area not pulling its weight. Our rehabilitation program includes strength, flexibility and agility training as well as training focused on coordination of body parts and motion to prepare the individual to return to full participation.
Pre/Postnatal Chiropractic
Here at Acu-Chiropractic Wellness Center, we offer a conservative approach to treating pregnant women. Our prenatal care is gentle and safe. We aim to alleviate the stress and strains of pregnancy while improving comfort for both the mother and baby. We understand the physical changes that come with pregnancy, and we offer relief without using any drugs.
Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression is a non-invasive mechanical procedure performed within our office to help alleviate back pain. It involves gently stretching the spine to take pressure off the spinal discs (the cushions that separate the vertebrae in the spine). By relieving this pressure, bulging discs can retract back into place which takes pressure off the nerves in the spine. By decompressing the spine, it permits water, oxygen and other fluids to work their way back into the discs allowing them to heal naturally. Spinal decompression is an excellent option for anyone with chronic back pain who wants to get back to living a pain-free life as quickly as possible.
Spinal Screenings
Sometimes all that stands between your daily pain and a happier, healthier you, is a chiropractic adjustment. Your body naturally wants to be in alignment, and our daily activities can throw what is naturally aligned out of balance. Also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, chiropractic adjustment refers to the manipulation of the vertebrae that have abnormal movements and are not functioning properly. Here at Acu-Chiropractic Wellness Center, we can help you achieve balance and proper alignment, giving you relief and improving your health.
Our goal in treating your joint and spinal issues is to reduce subluxation, increase range of motion, reduce nerve irritability, and improve mobility. Our highly skilled chiropractor will work with you to relieve your pain and get you back to living a pain free and healthy lifestyle.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound therapy is a chiropractic treatment used to help reduce muscle pain and increase range of motion. By using sound waves, we are able to stimulate deep inside the tissue. This minimizes stiffness, swelling, and pain while also promoting circulation, and pain-free movement.
Worker’s Compensation
Worker’s compensation is a form of insurance that replaces lost wages and pays for medical and chiropractic care for people injured on the job. It typically covers a number of injuries that can happen to nearly any worker. These injuries may occur as a result of a slip and fall accident, tripping over a hazard or on an unsafe surface, or falling off a ladder. For some workers, workers’ compensation will cover injuries that happen while the worker is driving or traveling as part of his or her work duties.
Musculoskeletal disorders affect a person’s muscles, bones, joints and connective tissue, such as tendons and ligaments.
A number of musculoskeletal disorders can keep a worker off the job, including:
- Sprains, strains, and tears
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive stress injuries
- Headaches and migraines
Diversified Technique

Schedule an AppointmentManual Adjustments
Manual Adjustments are most commonly used by our Doctors. This involves the doctor using their hands to move the affected joints. A quick thrust is applied to the joint that is restricted to move it back into place and allow for normal functioning.
Schedule an AppointmentThompson Technique
Thompson Technique uses a “drop table” to manually adjust the joint. The doctor uses a “drop piece” under the individual area they wish to adjust. They then use their hands to put pressure on the joint and the “drop piece” falls back into a neutral position as the joint moves.

What is the FirstLine® Therapy Therapeutic Lifestyle Program? FirstLine® Therapy (FLT) is a clinically-proven, structured but user-friendly, 12 week program for men and women that can be customized to fit your unique needs and preferences. Our FirstLine® Therapy practitioner will work intensively with you to develop a prescription for nutrition and activity based on your current health status and goals.
Many of us know just from common sense what leading researchers are proving in studies; that many of the health disorders we see today result from improper nutrition and a sedentary, high-stress lifestyle. But if you’ve had a hard time knowing where to begin and what principles are important to follow, FLT was developed with you in mind.
FLT is perfect for healthy people who believe in doing what they can to reduce their risk factors for chronic illnesses. It is also helpful for people who have already developed a lifestyle-related or other health problem and want to do all they can to help themselves. It’s a simple, do-able program that’s been tested in the real world with people just like you.
We’ve offered FLT for over three years and it has far exceeded our expectations. In addition, the quality of Acu-Chiropractic Wellness Center’s program brought us recognition as a Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes Center of Excellence in 2010.
How does it work?
FirstLine® Therapy combines a customized lifestyle prescription for healthy nutrition, activity, and stress reduction with nine weekly programs for education and support.
- The program includes a series of three private consultations with Dr. Laura Frerich, our licensed FLT Healthcare Provider to get you started and monitor your progress.
- Your first visit will be approximately an hour long. At that time you and Dr. Frerich will work together to develop a program that fits your specific health needs. You’ll have a cutting-edge health assessment called “Bioimpedance Analysis”, or “BIA” for short. This painless full-body measurement of your lean and fat body mass will be used in developing your food and movement programs, and will be repeated at 6 and 12 weeks so you can track your progress.
- We also encourage you to have some baseline bloodwork (like cholesterol and blood sugar) done if you have not had it recently or if we identify special risk factors for you.
The nutrition program you’ll get is detailed and specific while still leaving you lots of room for choices. This is not a starvation diet – you will be eating quite a bit of food! You’ll get a book full of information, recipes, progress-recording sheets, and helpful ideas to take home with you in addition to your test results. You can start your program right away!
How much does it cost and will my insurance cover FLT?
Your initial, 6-week and 12 week consultations, 3 BIA tests, guide book and other printed materials, and weekly consultations are all included in the program price of $600.00, which is paid on a per visit basis. Additional consultation visits and/or BIA tests (should you wish to have them) can be arranged for an additional fee. Lab tests and food supplements, which are optional, will be charged to you individually.
With a provider prescription, the program or some of its component parts, may be reimbursable through your health insurance or Medical Savings Account/Flexible Spending Account. Patients report success in getting FLT covered by insurance, but be sure to call your insurance company for more information on what your plan will and will not cover. We’ll provide a coded receipt for you to submit to your insurer when you complete the program.
How do I get started?
The first step is to enroll in the program and schedule your initial one-hour consultation with Dr. Frerich. If you have questions, give us a call. You may find it helpful to schedule a brief phone conversation with Dr. Frerich at no charge.
FirstLine® Therapy is a powerful, proven program for supporting your health – we’re so glad to have it available for you here!
