If you have been involved in an auto/car accident we are here to help you recover as quickly as possible. Car accidents commonly result in whiplash, neck pain, back pain, arm pain, and various other injuries. In order to begin recovery quickly it is important to have an evaluation soon after the accident in order to diagnose the condition and manage it effectively and reduce the likelihood for chronic issues. It is not uncommon for symptoms to show up days after the accident and even a “minor” auto accident can impart significant force on the body due to the sudden impact. Our chiropractors at Acu-Chiropractic Wellness Center, PA are ready to get you on the path to a speedy recovery.
While a car accident can result in many different injuries the most common and well known is whiplash. Whiplash is typically caused by a sudden and forceful backward and then forward motion typical of auto accidents, sports collisions, and other traumatic events. This sudden force can injure the bones and discs of the spine, the soft tissues (ligaments, tendons, and muscles) supporting the spine, as well as nerves and other tissues of the neck and upper back. Soft tissue injuries are commonly the major pain generator so it is important that you see a doctor trained in soft tissue injuries, like our chiropractors at Acu-Chiropractic in Eagan.
Symptoms of Whiplash (and associated disorders)
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Worsening of pain with neck movement
- Decreased range of motion in the neck
- Headaches
- Tingling or numbness in the arms or hands
- Pain or tenderness in the upper back, shoulder or arms.
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
- Other, less common symptoms such as: blurred vision, ringing in the ears, problems sleeping, irritability, difficulty concentrating and others.
Why see a chiropractor after an auto accident?
Chiropractors are specifically trained in assessing and treating the changes in biomechanics and soft tissue injuries often associated with auto accidents. While pain medications may be needed to help reduce the symptoms in the short term it is important to also address the injury itself in order to reduce the likely hood of long term problems.
At Acu-Chiropractic in Eagan we always start with a conservative non-drug, non-surgical approach to pain relief, but we also work closely with medical doctors and other healthcare providers when that approach is needed.
